Meet Puya Pazir

Psychologist

Psychologist, GradDipPsych (Honours), MProfPsych, MAPS, BA (Music Performance), GradDip (Music Composition),

Puya is a psychologist with a distinctive background across psychology, music, education, and sport. He has completed a Bachelor of Music Performance, a Graduate Diploma of Music Composition, a Graduate Diploma of Psychology with Honours, and a Master of Professional Psychology. He is also currently completing the placement component of his Master of Clinical Psychology, continuing to develop his clinical knowledge and therapeutic skills through advanced training and supervision.

Puya’s pathway into psychology was shaped by his earlier work as a music teacher and basketball coach, where he developed a strong interest in supporting people’s personal growth, emotional resilience, confidence, and wellbeing. Following his psychology honours studies, he worked as a provisional psychologist in regional and lower socioeconomic communities across Victoria, experiences that strengthened his commitment to providing thoughtful, compassionate, and accessible psychological care to people from diverse backgrounds.

Puya takes a holistic and integrative approach to therapy. He places strong emphasis on developing a safe, respectful, and collaborative therapeutic relationship, where clients feel supported to openly explore their concerns, experiences, strengths, and goals.

His therapeutic work is informed by evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions. He also draws thoughtfully on philosophy, the arts, physical practices, and lived experience where appropriate, helping clients develop practical and personalised strategies for meaningful change.

In addition to therapy, Puya conducts a range of psychological assessments to support diagnostic clarification, treatment planning, and a deeper understanding of each client’s needs. These include cognitive and intelligence assessments such as the WISC and WAIS, personality assessments such as the PAI, and autism assessments including the ADOS-2.

Puya is passionate about supporting mental and emotional wellbeing through a balance of scientific knowledge, clinical skill, creativity, and genuine human connection.

His work is guided by the belief that effective psychological care should be both evidence-based and personally meaningful, helping each client move toward greater insight, resilience, and wellbeing.

Meet Paige

Receptionist

Paige is the first point of contact at the practice and plays an important role in supporting clients from their initial enquiry through to ongoing appointments. She assists with scheduling, enquiries, and day-to-day coordination, helping to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all clients.

Why is an Accredited Mental Health Soical Worker?

When seeking mental health support, many people first think of psychologists. However, Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSWs) offer a comparable level of clinical expertise and therapeutic care.

AMHSWs are highly trained professionals who specialise in mental health. In addition to a social work qualification, an AMHSW completes extensive training in areas such as counselling, psychotherapy, and mental health treatment. After acquiring significant clinical experience, they are eligible for accreditation through the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

This accreditation recognises advanced skills in mental health practice and qualifies AMHSWs to provide services under Medicare, offering clients access to rebates similar to those available when seeing a psychologist.

Like psychologists, AMHSWs are trained in a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-focused therapies. Many also specialise in working with particular populations or issues, such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or relationship difficulties.

Accredited Mental Health Social Workers bring a holistic, client-centred approach to care, integrating psychological insight with a deep understanding of social and environmental factors that affect wellbeing. They are an excellent option for individuals seeking high-quality, professional mental health support.
